East Scores “Exceeds Expectations”

Green Bay East scored “Exceeds Expectations” on the school report card. Ms. Lisa Lipp, associate principal of East, said there are five categories: fails to meet expectations, meets few expectations, meets expectations, exceeds expectations, and significantly exceeds expectations. The key elements on the state report card are, attendance, ACT scores, grades/passing rates, demographics, race/ethnicity, student achievement, being on track for graduation, and growth accounts for 88% of the results. Lipp said, “There’s really no element that’s more important than the others. They all go hand in hand, but personally I want to see growth.”

In previous years, East was not exceeding expectations. Lipp said that the reason behind our previous low scores “was due to attendance”. If students don’t show up, then they are not learning, which causes their grades to drop.  That is why attendance is such an important aspect of the state report card.

Lipp said, “Changing the school’s structure from semesters to trimesters since the year 18-19 really helped East scores to exceed expectations.” When looking at the current state report card, East is the only high school in the Green Bay Area Public District that exceeds expectations.

Attendance is really important, but with Covid coming along and causing the need to quarantine, having proper school attendance was impossible. For that reason, there were no state report cards last year and the previous year to give schools time to adjust to the changes and come back strong.

Lipp said that she wants students “to focus on their goals and what they want, and do what they need to do to achieve their goals.” With East being the only high school in the Green Bay Area to score “Exceeds Expectations,” Lipp said, “I’m really proud of our staff and students.”
