Featuring Marathon Runner, Robert Kumpula

By Lydia Robinson

During the pandemic Robert Kumpula. People know him as Bob. Bob is our security desk monitor at the school and he has often found himself making a lot of unhealthy choices. Bob wanted to turn his life around and go in a different direction. Be a better version of himself. So that’s what he did. He turned himself around. He made a simple plan that changed his life. He  decided to walk 100 miles every month.

Bob states that running also has helped him a lot. After running he can see a lot of change in his mental health. Bob says after running he has had  much more peaceful nights, except on some nights his adrenaline was still pumping and his body ached.

Bob gets ready for a race first by becoming familiar with the route of the race so he can prepare himself. That way he knows what to wear all the way from his shoes to clothes. He prepares himself by running 8 to 32 miles everyday of the week and on Sundays he runs even more. Then he plans out how much food he needs to eat for the right amount of nutrition and how much water he needs to drink  to stay hydrated.

When Bob runs it’s very tiring. Even though he is exhausted he keeps on running. That is why he has a lot of healthy food and a lot of water in his system. Some days when Bob runs it is absolutely horrible and some days it is amazing.

“Caffeine helps,” Bob said
