East High School Food Drive

By Chris J. Lopez-Henriquez

The East Student Council held a food drive the week of Dec. 13.  According to Matt VandenHouten, Student Council Advisor, the food drive strove to “bring in food for our pantry at school,” which runs throughout the year.

During in-person instruction, students can benefit from the pantry just about any time. However, with our online education, when it is imperative to stay socially distanced, access to the panty has been more limited. Therefore the Student Council decided to do a service project, while at the same time helping out the East community.

All the food will be used as part of the “‘Eats for East’…backpack food program for students that may not have enough food to get them through the weekend,” says VandenHouten. It is through this process that many students of  all academic levels and their families of all economic backgrounds benefit from the East food pantry.

The East community has long taken on the mission of striving towards improving the quality of education, diversity, and service for our community here in Green Bay.
